Experimental Geophysics

Laboratory experiments

The research of the Experimental Geophysics group deals, among other things, with the topic of geothermal energy. In the laboratory, for example, we measure permeability and hydraulic diffusivity of rocks using a permeameter or a triaxial press to assess the hydraulic properties of geothermal reservoirs. The hydraulic properties of fractures or faults can also be characterized in the laboratory by pumping a fluid through a borehole to an artificial fault in the rock sample.
