Admission procedure

Application

Please submit your documents in the application portal of the RUB. A list of required documents can be found here.

The portal is open from beginning of December to January 15 for the summer intake and from beginning of June to July 15th for the winter intake.

Review and admission process

After we receive your application, we review the formal criteria of your application and your suitability for our MSc program "Geosciences". A list of our minimum admission requirements can be found here.

If the formal criteria are met, we invite you via e-mail to submit a motivation letter. All details for the letter will be found in the e-mail you receive from our internal admission office, so please read it carefully.

After we receive your motivation letter and we decide to proceed with your application, you will be invited for an online counselling meeting. If completed, you will receive full admission as well as the final documents required for enrolment.

Required forms to enrol

A list of required documents can be found here. After your successful counselling meeting you will get a form signed by the counsellor and the examination office ("Proof of mandatory counselling"). With this document you can complete your enrolment.

I don’t get my VISA on time. What now?

Admissions cannot be deferred and the institute (IGMG) does not issue appeals to embassies or consulates.

If you do not get your VISA on time you will have to apply again the next semester. Your name will be placed on the priority list of admissions.

Does arriving late have any impact on my enrolment or study plan?

Some courses are held in hybrid formats or provide online material that you can study on your own. Please check with the respective lecturer. Exams are held predominantly in presence. Please note that if you arrive more than two weeks after the start of the semester you might be denied entrance to the courses. Please let the study coordination office know.

I enrolled and will arrive in Germany on time for my MSc studies. Where and how do I get started?

The RUBiss Team (RUB international student services) of the RUB International Office provides tours of the Campus, usually the week before lectures start, helps finding accommodations and supports you in all formal, social and study-related issues. Please reach out to rubiss@rub.de as early as possible to help get settled before the semester starts. More information can be found here. Additional further MSc program support can be given by the IGMG student council (fsgeo@rub.de).

How do I get started with my course work?

Please make sure to register for all your courses on the e-Campus platform. You can check the deadlines in the course catalogue. Additionally, the digital study platform “Moodle” is used to provide course materials (exercises, literature, lectures).
