Prof. Dr. Joerg Renner

The major research interests of Jörg Renner, professor for Experimental Geophysics at Ruhr-Universität Bochum, address two strongly linked topics, subsurface fluid transport and deformation of rocks. He tackles problems from groundwater flow near the surface, to geothermal energy production from the upper crust, to melt transport in the Earth's mantle by performing and analyzing field and laboratory experiments, and developing empirically based as well as micromechanically motivated constitutive relations. The integration of results from laboratory and field investigations permits investigating scale-dependencies of subsurface processes.
